In 2021, I read books that have multiple themes. Most of the books that I read were concentrated on Feminism and LGBTQ. And my reads covered 8 countries. Here’s my reading journey throughout the year:

Favorite author of the year: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

“The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn’t have the weight of gender expectations.”

― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, We Should All Be Feminists

Book that I recommend everyone must read: The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai

“But by reading their books, I saw the other side of them — their humanity. Somehow I was sure that if people were willing to read each other, and see the light of other cultures, there would be no war on earth.”

― Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, The Mountains Sing

Books that I read because of Instagram hype: Beautiful World, Where are You & The Mountains Sing

“What if the meaning of life on earth is not eternal progress toward some unspecified goal — the engineering and production of more and more powerful technologies, the development of more and more complex and abstruse cultural forms? What if these things just rise and recede naturally, like tides, while the meaning of life remains the same always — just to live and be with other people?”

― Sally Rooney, Beautiful World, Where Are You

Books that I should have dnfed:

  1. My sister the serial Killer
  2. Chanakya’s Chant

Because I felt that neither the plot is interesting nor there is any character arc. I finished these books in the hope to find some sort of plot twist.

Books that I dnfed:

  1. Latitudes of Longing
  2. The Architect’s Apprentice
  3. Blue Moon
  4. The Handmaid’s Tale
This was my 2021 reading-wise. Let me know how your 2021 was and what are your big plans for 2022 in the comments section. Until then, Happy Reading 🧡
